Here's the project I had started:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFQsiNbYvKcbB76y0SDIc2uATnndMm3eee6Pc_VkxWCxUEPUpdI4bSRF-DzK2EY9u5qSvGvgnU4nwRhk0sPaOcncgNjg-EGhsQOKqWekKzjaysiCzStG6ZpU_xQOQFDBPT3kn4cjLys7kv/s1500/SpringFlingPINKfini2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1479" data-original-width="1500" height="395" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFQsiNbYvKcbB76y0SDIc2uATnndMm3eee6Pc_VkxWCxUEPUpdI4bSRF-DzK2EY9u5qSvGvgnU4nwRhk0sPaOcncgNjg-EGhsQOKqWekKzjaysiCzStG6ZpU_xQOQFDBPT3kn4cjLys7kv/w400-h395/SpringFlingPINKfini2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> Recently, when I was going through my project stash I ran across it and thought, "Hey, I should finish this up!" So I did. And I liked it so much, I stitched up another one in a dreamy blue thread palette:<div><br /></div><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_bK_hkBJSA_bAWZSFCMwxRUk6-zguP-FbyTGP0wwL6Y7RRmCRLzPRw-Lwgd4DWw4MkmqOEQrIx1XqT-C5FVa7kF29nHP-z-mmqkZzHrr-7QOzA1dzfpinHaFsxyAOy4sAK8sYPEUGGfv/s1500/SpringFlingBLUEfini2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1499" data-original-width="1500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_bK_hkBJSA_bAWZSFCMwxRUk6-zguP-FbyTGP0wwL6Y7RRmCRLzPRw-Lwgd4DWw4MkmqOEQrIx1XqT-C5FVa7kF29nHP-z-mmqkZzHrr-7QOzA1dzfpinHaFsxyAOy4sAK8sYPEUGGfv/w400-h400/SpringFlingBLUEfini2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /><p></p><p>And I liked it equally as well as the pink one! "Hey, this would make a fun cyber class project," I thought to myself. So that's what I'm presenting to you today - but as an ENCORE CYBER CLASS: the totally serene <span style="color: #6fa8dc;"><b>"SPRING FLING"</b></span>.</p><div><p> And I must tell you, none of the stitches are difficult; indeed, they are basic stitches done in easy repeat rows, which are fun to stitch just to see the soft colors unfurl themselves.... Here's what the assorted stitch patterns look like up close:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpoBPdGi6YpfeAsH_nSaITqvlblJCSpMDDMJHqVsvRR17bHXTPWtz6GGeXzXPRAdRTCuQdWGSGhLZolerLGIjTjnSi8oPc3GBHJb_Q1P1alsMIqDt5f1cjlOGuNsc0zYWwlPMAlK0pxYST/s739/SprgFlngblue1b.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="719" data-original-width="739" height="389" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpoBPdGi6YpfeAsH_nSaITqvlblJCSpMDDMJHqVsvRR17bHXTPWtz6GGeXzXPRAdRTCuQdWGSGhLZolerLGIjTjnSi8oPc3GBHJb_Q1P1alsMIqDt5f1cjlOGuNsc0zYWwlPMAlK0pxYST/w400-h389/SprgFlngblue1b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>Honestly, there's nothing difficult here -- straight stitches, zig zag rows, triangles, diagonal laid ribbons, and even a little bit of a lacy filling stitch.... And aren't the colors yummy? This 10" x 10" design is stitched on 18 ct. soft ivory canvas, with one variegated Watercolours, a handful of DMC #5 pearl cottons, a few flosses, and a couple of metallic ribbon colors. And the piece includes silver round beads and a silver diamond jewel for the center. But it occurs to me now, that this piece would also be a terrific way to show off an heirloom button or unique charm (oooh, how about a small cameo?).... I'm sure you can find something fun in your own stash of buttons, charms, and beads, if you like that idea.</p><p>Here are the basic color choices for the class, either BLUE or PINK:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJaNXdxtuuCc2XTAVWVX5BmXCOMIVVzpZAA2KPMc-f9hVe9Tpmw8ZDQxIoaSne0BlSyqO96p4GUsFAf9QntTGVnemwdI3zNSX-06YmKe4DMTwref5bs85mOrECgOTMKBr3O-rgPQX2mCd/s2500/ThrdsChoice2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="663" data-original-width="2500" height="106" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJaNXdxtuuCc2XTAVWVX5BmXCOMIVVzpZAA2KPMc-f9hVe9Tpmw8ZDQxIoaSne0BlSyqO96p4GUsFAf9QntTGVnemwdI3zNSX-06YmKe4DMTwref5bs85mOrECgOTMKBr3O-rgPQX2mCd/w400-h106/ThrdsChoice2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>And this time around, I've added two more color choices: PEACH or LAVENDER:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwTpLz-f_Luk8lZZrAh4xu8ajpYk3QUkH489mV0TTbSwWnGzanKI8s8gdgJUqiGjaLV7PFCd2CLWWBRyASfoVNvTlLriF8dqLevwLwkkau2d4oaRJ-Vcam8qkW8cynr4kYkSr42YQNElVpWH22zLHw2hY75hagEa0CsWqxdRpyVNv5U1ztUEcSuLnjyw/s893/SFThrds3afini.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="299" data-original-width="893" height="134" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwTpLz-f_Luk8lZZrAh4xu8ajpYk3QUkH489mV0TTbSwWnGzanKI8s8gdgJUqiGjaLV7PFCd2CLWWBRyASfoVNvTlLriF8dqLevwLwkkau2d4oaRJ-Vcam8qkW8cynr4kYkSr42YQNElVpWH22zLHw2hY75hagEa0CsWqxdRpyVNv5U1ztUEcSuLnjyw/w399-h134/SFThrds3afini.jpg" width="399" /></a></div><br /> The BLUE palette is built around Watercolors 336 - "cool waters" and the PINK palette is built around Watercolours 053 - "coral blush". Are you captivated by all the different kinds of buttons there are out in the world? Are you a secret button collector because you can't resist all their history and variety? Ever wanted some kind of stitching project that incorporates buttons in the design?</p><p>Well, have I got a great project for you: my newest cyber class, called<b><span style="color: #38761d;"> "BUTTON BOX"</span></b>. And I designed it specifically to use with a handful of assorted buttons that you might have in your stash -- maybe in a hand-me-down button bag from your family or just buttons you've collected over the years.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAXovJNmZ1yaAJPaBT7pVyFfk-MjnLTEspSYIp6RAv-Z8L1Snehgk9_F1S93mtZGt0x4_5IcKJOSZDkuS96ynskQHqrxqzaEng87PsTDxfIrd4e_IeriCqBvLtL6E0PgDNuUpEoIJZHNO_so5qIf-gEaICOELwxpuXos9tcRUKzQhJneAy--E-whrlhA/s800/ButtonBoxPINKsm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="787" data-original-width="800" height="394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAXovJNmZ1yaAJPaBT7pVyFfk-MjnLTEspSYIp6RAv-Z8L1Snehgk9_F1S93mtZGt0x4_5IcKJOSZDkuS96ynskQHqrxqzaEng87PsTDxfIrd4e_IeriCqBvLtL6E0PgDNuUpEoIJZHNO_so5qIf-gEaICOELwxpuXos9tcRUKzQhJneAy--E-whrlhA/w400-h394/ButtonBoxPINKsm.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>I wanted something fun and easy to stitch.... with ribbon borders and four floral patterns that fill the four different squares of the design. Then there are holes left along the outer border, as well as in the four corners and centerpiece, to place your collected buttons. And I offer two colorways for the class: <b><span style="color: #e06666;">a coral PINK</span></b> (shown above) and <b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">a periwinkle BLUE</span></b> (shown below in part):</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ZavvaOfkNzWU6DriT-BZlexGjonzrGiPOrNxIPVySNchN5oQtbxsxUmSq-nLaQjGCx_qc9bUscRWGq9pVvMZ-jeqTQ5vOQbBUWlFJma0gwCFVn0WQW9WxEIkbQ1CzDuUsNbWNDHrLdVWvzizJPk8tL_YsIIPaiCNmDUvULS5ypfzGAkp4rvmOWc5Qw/s500/BlueButtonBoxDETsm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="477" data-original-width="500" height="381" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ZavvaOfkNzWU6DriT-BZlexGjonzrGiPOrNxIPVySNchN5oQtbxsxUmSq-nLaQjGCx_qc9bUscRWGq9pVvMZ-jeqTQ5vOQbBUWlFJma0gwCFVn0WQW9WxEIkbQ1CzDuUsNbWNDHrLdVWvzizJPk8tL_YsIIPaiCNmDUvULS5ypfzGAkp4rvmOWc5Qw/w400-h381/BlueButtonBoxDETsm.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Each colorway is built around a variegated Caron Watercolours skein, with two matching solid colors of #5 DMC, two green #5 DMC colors, a soft ivory #5 for the ribbon work, two soft metallic ribbon threads, and a handful of gold or silver seed beads. And please note that the (warm) pink kit is stitched on the Santa Fe Sage green 18ct. canvas, while the (cool) blue kit is worked on a pale blue (almost grey) 18 ct. canvas.</p><p><b><span style="color: #0b5394;">The kit DOES NOT include any buttons: that's YOUR part of the artistic process, finding the buttons!</span></b> </p><p>You can see in the photos above that I mixed and matched different types of buttons on my models. I originally planned to use all ivory/pearl type buttons but realized that putting colored buttons on the piece really added a lot more color and texture to the design - as well as some unexpected pizazz! And notice on the blue model, I chose a few silver buttons to accent the cooler feel of the piece.</p><p>And just a bit of creative brainstorming: you don't have to stick with buttons for your piece.... you could also use charms, cameos, fimo-type buttons, and even larger pieces of jewelry as the main centerpiece! You can really have a lot of fun embellishing your finished project in this class project.</p><p>So, if you'd like to create something a little bit different in a not-very-difficult canvaswork design, please hop/skip/jump on over to<a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net"> <b>my websit</b>e</a> to see all the cyber class information for this fun new <b><span style="color: #e06666;">"BUTTON BOX"</span></b> design.</p>Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16092467666957561426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541885083874632647.post-90791518857541270872022-09-16T16:05:00.001-07:002022-09-16T16:05:57.083-07:00Four Floral Squares<p> Do you enjoy working on smaller projects in between large pieces? I do! I have soooo many large pieces to work on these days that's it's a nice break to stitch on smaller designs that are easier to finish and provide a little bit of instant gratification. And of course, if those smaller projects have a flower in their design, I'm on it!!</p><p>Here's a new design I'm releasing this month called <b><span style="color: #38761d;">"FOUR FLORAL SQUARES"</span></b>:</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrLX4ld-GtE4ucoBxBTTunmL1cLiu4aGjosEf_yrCxmDXBcEpl1oQfdE2v3klwlbG_9Laa1-TmW66rfkgrBBh78LXo35coNDWqH6gsJN-CKZ_PzVDa3VxPswgymnPNm2r_CXLfllSco83JhFvwadVnF992j8Q_zDIsv0WXkInLeKpkC4pDVENbqwDjAQ/s800/FourFloralSquaresSM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="779" data-original-width="800" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrLX4ld-GtE4ucoBxBTTunmL1cLiu4aGjosEf_yrCxmDXBcEpl1oQfdE2v3klwlbG_9Laa1-TmW66rfkgrBBh78LXo35coNDWqH6gsJN-CKZ_PzVDa3VxPswgymnPNm2r_CXLfllSco83JhFvwadVnF992j8Q_zDIsv0WXkInLeKpkC4pDVENbqwDjAQ/w400-h390/FourFloralSquaresSM.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr></tbody></table><p>As you can see, there are four different flowers, done in four different color palettes, surrounded in four different border patterns. Each design is approximately 5.5" x 5.5" and each features a different flower in the center -- a rose, violet, sunflower, and anemone.</p><p>And you know how I love to play with borders, right?? Well, that was my challenge here: create four pieces with completely different borders, each one built around a variegated ThreadworX Overdyed Floss skein, along with matching #5 pearl cottons and 1-2 metallic ribbons for a bit of sparkle.</p><p>Here's what they look like up close:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; So, if you missed the class before, now's the time to sign up and enjoy creating something truly unique!<div><br /></div><div><b><span style="color: #8e7cc3;">PETITE ARABESQUE</span></b> is a very elegant geometric design, that is small in size (8.25" x 8.25") but packs a lot of interesting stitches and threads within its borders. I pulled out my <b>UKRAINIAN EGGS</b> pattern and took one of the individual eggs and regraphed it using blue and gold threads I had in my stash. I used #5 pearl cottons on a small piece of 18 ct. eggshell canvas. These individual eggs are approximately 2" wide by 2.75" tall, and while they use basic stitches, they are stuffed into a tiny area, so you need to count and stitch carefully!</p><p>Below is the pattern I used to stitch both of the above eggs. I started with the blue version first, and that's what the graph shows below. But then I created the second golden version by switching around all the blue and gold sections, just to see how different it might look. </p><p>I'm offering this ornament design here as a free pattern for any stitcher who wants to make their own version of these traditional Ukrainian eggs.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjennzsq_XN1FFb2bpGWvgjPHri_8JvE24BHEC05K1Z7c70PeClLsRj9IMsE0gIN1Uimybq7DmmXTlglLtOYYDTOA_K2LLOmqUAifL4X7scx-Cx45VkAUgZm3Eo89LGaUDs6krQejsnvMFEAjS0eA5nCHW9V2yr1_S_88vlvBQ5blnCMlmkjjH6rde-iw=s3300" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3300" data-original-width="2550" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjennzsq_XN1FFb2bpGWvgjPHri_8JvE24BHEC05K1Z7c70PeClLsRj9IMsE0gIN1Uimybq7DmmXTlglLtOYYDTOA_K2LLOmqUAifL4X7scx-Cx45VkAUgZm3Eo89LGaUDs6krQejsnvMFEAjS0eA5nCHW9V2yr1_S_88vlvBQ5blnCMlmkjjH6rde-iw=w494-h640" width="494" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>Please print out this blog post to use it for your pattern. Cut a small piece of canvas and grab a handful of blue and gold threads in your stash....</p><p>By the way, I'm planning to make both of these eggs into small ornaments that I can hang in my house, to remind me to send prayers to all the brave men and women fighting for Ukrainian freedom. I hope these small ornaments will help you do the same, since this week has shown that as our world gets smaller and more interconnected, we are truly ALL Ukrainians!</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16092467666957561426noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541885083874632647.post-27597766874424556462021-12-21T14:57:00.000-08:002021-12-21T14:57:18.897-08:00A New Cyber Class for the New Year<p> I've been working on a different kind of project for my first 2022 cyber class. It's a collage piece that uses warm western colors and has a definite Western theme -- I'm calling it<span style="color: #660000;"><b> "CARVED ANIMAL COLLAGE"</b></span> because it features the carved animal fetishes created over the ages by Native American artists. Here's the class piece I'm talking about:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh3qAra2c5Asci8U8rNm18rU8xhgkGJX5geiLjiJ4kA3-zrDl4iKoo-8pXRHILM-MvTekanp1ZGG1qvg-QAxKSo_bPbpvItlZcX3qfUcb6cnLkUcJwkvj3i5AJIYLjj49_s0_BDmGZK5GT_MFBUiJec638uVvN7fueSKXPDd8OYCGHDNTCsalsOQPssNw=s1201" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh3qAra2c5Asci8U8rNm18rU8xhgkGJX5geiLjiJ4kA3-zrDl4iKoo-8pXRHILM-MvTekanp1ZGG1qvg-QAxKSo_bPbpvItlZcX3qfUcb6cnLkUcJwkvj3i5AJIYLjj49_s0_BDmGZK5GT_MFBUiJec638uVvN7fueSKXPDd8OYCGHDNTCsalsOQPssNw=w400-h400" width="400" /></a></div><p>It's 9.5" x 9.5" on 18 ct. sandstone canvas, created with a palette of serene western colors. AND each stitcher gets to choose between a<span style="color: #38761d;"><b> <span style="color: #45818e;">TEAL & BROWN</span></b></span> palette (shown above, using Watercolors 010 - "Fiesta") or a <span style="color: #3d85c6;"><b>BLUE & BROWN</b></span> palette (detail shown below, using Watercolours 260 - "Sticks & Stones").</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh3iqwWFEhAkU-lmjoHcRKUOcSkpstSSoExKhgwfgE8ZGD1GX05hy6rOR8URaTMa2StQpvBhRNUUkoLlHATshRZCVHtoJid1bo8egzeuj06sbNofJXDIK_rzq30JHdHhVBMrFMl8sAUH65CTt9KaulhNDZ8bU1QVGc5EJYXtA5Y09e-qkIQ9pJooaXjgg=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="656" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh3iqwWFEhAkU-lmjoHcRKUOcSkpstSSoExKhgwfgE8ZGD1GX05hy6rOR8URaTMa2StQpvBhRNUUkoLlHATshRZCVHtoJid1bo8egzeuj06sbNofJXDIK_rzq30JHdHhVBMrFMl8sAUH65CTt9KaulhNDZ8bU1QVGc5EJYXtA5Y09e-qkIQ9pJooaXjgg=s320" width="210" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>As a fun bonus in this new class, the pattern includes several animal graphs, so each stitcher gets to decide which animal to stitch as their centerpiece: <b>a HORSE, a WOLF, or a BEAR</b> -- and of course, all three animals carry stones and beads on their backs in the traditional fetish manner:</p><p></p><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjqqWXsubpMvXnyUa8m7fq6mrJOc9wzy0LU3P-Ns41iz_4N4seoigv-BbE9W_NDrX_KraBZdyAxeWvj85mDWqFxn9LWLmZnP973mVwpNegQEcGSFjcGEv8ONJZjKB5xUP6P6QSU-cU1Sy36dL4nsVFyTyjAd_Cl_Jq0_uW7t2hi0qHICil_TbGtJ3YF4Q=s800" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="693" data-original-width="800" height="173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjqqWXsubpMvXnyUa8m7fq6mrJOc9wzy0LU3P-Ns41iz_4N4seoigv-BbE9W_NDrX_KraBZdyAxeWvj85mDWqFxn9LWLmZnP973mVwpNegQEcGSFjcGEv8ONJZjKB5xUP6P6QSU-cU1Sy36dL4nsVFyTyjAd_Cl_Jq0_uW7t2hi0qHICil_TbGtJ3YF4Q=w200-h173" width="200" /> </a><br /></div><br /><p></p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiZeguF6Gd3cJdTvv21XqbG8ID2T-Kg-0kZnHUcKdkXkWyiwCtL6Znj19cCFqMbjimLPrU51WFea0GxgeTTXi8VMBqg3Ms0vY_iRTZ3vZxoCe6oWlQLVz60_djRnItzBzYUchmrUue8iGVGzUokqMKUdCQYDjaMOVUvsUBsRC3cCRlwLNH_yeMS-QPbeA=s900" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="771" data-original-width="900" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiZeguF6Gd3cJdTvv21XqbG8ID2T-Kg-0kZnHUcKdkXkWyiwCtL6Znj19cCFqMbjimLPrU51WFea0GxgeTTXi8VMBqg3Ms0vY_iRTZ3vZxoCe6oWlQLVz60_djRnItzBzYUchmrUue8iGVGzUokqMKUdCQYDjaMOVUvsUBsRC3cCRlwLNH_yeMS-QPbeA=w200-h171" width="200" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>Don't you think this piece has a masculine feel to it? Add in a handful of round silver beads, rustic stones, plus two copper feathers, and you have a fun textural piece as well!</p><p></p><p>So if you love Western styles, themes and colors, you may want to gallop on over to<a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net"><b> my website</b></a> and check out all the information on this new <span style="color: #990000;"><b>CARVED ANIMAL COLLAGE</b></span> cyber class .... and treat yourself to a fun new project for 2022!<br /><br /></p>Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16092467666957561426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541885083874632647.post-43521015740766106042021-11-17T15:34:00.001-08:002021-11-17T15:40:44.731-08:00MAPLE LEAF Time!<p> <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3fbdtO7T1nRuBSwETJgylsb-oMLkKFMJsYmHIUSmiTzJHCgCMzvDXTrpWWOGLtm2j0LoKgdCKIsnrs1PRvgJZzWh2F_WoVzxh4rJGBBupL7CmTeFoMJJ-Hy_BRI83ncrAmktX8msfP1W7/s1600/IMG_3469.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3fbdtO7T1nRuBSwETJgylsb-oMLkKFMJsYmHIUSmiTzJHCgCMzvDXTrpWWOGLtm2j0LoKgdCKIsnrs1PRvgJZzWh2F_WoVzxh4rJGBBupL7CmTeFoMJJ-Hy_BRI83ncrAmktX8msfP1W7/w400-h300/IMG_3469.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p></p><p> It's full on Fall in my neck of the woods.... How about where you live?</p><p>All the color on the leaves (and now mostly on the ground) remind me of a favorite quilt design I did many, many years ago when I was stitching up lots and lots of different quilt patterns for counted canvas designs. <span style="color: #990000;"><b>MAPLE LEAF</b></span> was one of the first designs where I used diagonal borders to create "on point" diamond spaces that would allow me to insert stitched maple leaves. Here's what I'm talking about:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqXcuJwfSMh4u1wkToWsgZU7DKJn90n01j_CDFpaJMT-EtO32C70BtAYLDV_zhKS5j27f5V3Hvixx1NgoERF1AAOef3FT7_WXTY15zzysmEjPFGnAfufXiajIdX3IC5yRkEV5dOqXTIIVd/s750/mapleaf.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="739" data-original-width="750" height="394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqXcuJwfSMh4u1wkToWsgZU7DKJn90n01j_CDFpaJMT-EtO32C70BtAYLDV_zhKS5j27f5V3Hvixx1NgoERF1AAOef3FT7_WXTY15zzysmEjPFGnAfufXiajIdX3IC5yRkEV5dOqXTIIVd/w400-h394/mapleaf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>The original model was done in full fall colors of rich greens, reds, golds -- using Watercolours 010, "Fiesta", one of the very first variegated threads dyed by Lois Caron. The small 8" x 8" piece is worked on 18 ct canvas (eggshell, soft ivory or even sandstone would work fine). One of the fun things about stitching this piece is how limited the thread palette is (one variegated thread, two solid color #5 pearl cottons, and one neutral background color) but how rich and complex it looks when you've finished stitching it! Which is one of the best reasons to work with a variegated thread - no need to switch threads.... just keep stitching and let the colors unfold and surprise you!!<br /></p><p> I loved this <b><span style="color: #990000;">MAPLE LEAF</span></b> pattern so much that later I stitched it<span style="color: #990000;"></span> in a different wine country colorway - green and wine - using Watercolours 047 "Camouflage" which has luscious greens, golds and burgundies. Here's what that version of <b>MAPLE LEAF</b> looks like, although please know that thread dyelots have changed a LOT over the years and today's threads are not exactly the same as those done many years ago:</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkJwPseb6Kx-9sPgdtnIYJEQPtbSyG9iM8yv4VJIbjOwINed-liMmx-5HnpP5U9kECkOGjyJiR7ovfnY0TFZ7h5ITXor97ldwg4m3P19TO_VpAsHyQWKtuiAcin7dmcbcdOBUDi6DMv-eD/s1000/MapleLeafwine.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="952" data-original-width="1000" height="381" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkJwPseb6Kx-9sPgdtnIYJEQPtbSyG9iM8yv4VJIbjOwINed-liMmx-5HnpP5U9kECkOGjyJiR7ovfnY0TFZ7h5ITXor97ldwg4m3P19TO_VpAsHyQWKtuiAcin7dmcbcdOBUDi6DMv-eD/w400-h381/MapleLeafwine.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />I've put both colorways in this revised new pattern, so you can select which version you prefer.... or you may have another fall thread you'd like to try, since there are now so many more variegated pearl cotton threads on the market. Here's a look at that design:</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlOJSRKS9nGqY5bW7c0clDmhtdwWeUkz5DzZdEP5DCZnAqcySCo45mNkzhSCocG1d0wli96xqKNFRHjj0IuFXLVGkNp8PyP1JvI2lt4DpGY2yK40C-6E8PYWSGeWG_cSafFMuCzXtbvGT6/s558/LavenderALLsmall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="558" data-original-width="550" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlOJSRKS9nGqY5bW7c0clDmhtdwWeUkz5DzZdEP5DCZnAqcySCo45mNkzhSCocG1d0wli96xqKNFRHjj0IuFXLVGkNp8PyP1JvI2lt4DpGY2yK40C-6E8PYWSGeWG_cSafFMuCzXtbvGT6/w394-h400/LavenderALLsmall.jpg" width="394" /></a></div><p></p><p> And I got to thinking about doing another similar piece, but maybe using reds (a color I don't typically use, except for Christmas stuff). And then "Strawberry Fields" popped into my head, and I got to figuring out how to design a geometric piece that featured strawberries.</p><p>Hmmm....the first challenge was to see if I could create a realistic strawberry (that was also easy to stitch, ahem), since they would be the focal points of the design. I spent an afternoon fiddling around with stitches and threads and came up with a fun-to-stitch padded strawberry, as well as a pale pink blossom:</p><p> <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJGyZi5JtYIKFO1FSmqUM_RfPD_4jPi95MqcskmWhe39eNN2g1zwqIktQ87wW5Aj_bEObusgdfVUz5FI6wzwxcVYx20EM2x2bn1LV0eEnAE0OwcDXSx8sK46ggWWFAkhcGk5F6KxrMM4iG/s238/StrawberryBERRY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="195" data-original-width="238" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJGyZi5JtYIKFO1FSmqUM_RfPD_4jPi95MqcskmWhe39eNN2g1zwqIktQ87wW5Aj_bEObusgdfVUz5FI6wzwxcVYx20EM2x2bn1LV0eEnAE0OwcDXSx8sK46ggWWFAkhcGk5F6KxrMM4iG/w320-h262/StrawberryBERRY.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>So once I had the berries and blossoms figured out, I could work on the rest of the design, which had a similar layout as my previous <span style="color: #8e7cc3;"><b>LAVENDER FIELDS</b></span>, but changing the patterns and colors so it looked more like a strawberry patch! And here's the 10.5" x 10.5" finished result done on 18 ct. santa fe sage green canvas:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6iRNZr7zDY3MZ9DSexaH2dzJs6q2FFgqx-76JTwEVhzzggnAlCyxvZicjY2uowDvPf5dQ0RN6zVLfG5q-5oKLTWb8LxQcG_mS3x_UxxRSwb6voKY7XgPB9k0sCpqhc4klP28lYRM9efZb/s1210/StrawberryFieldsFINI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1210" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6iRNZr7zDY3MZ9DSexaH2dzJs6q2FFgqx-76JTwEVhzzggnAlCyxvZicjY2uowDvPf5dQ0RN6zVLfG5q-5oKLTWb8LxQcG_mS3x_UxxRSwb6voKY7XgPB9k0sCpqhc4klP28lYRM9efZb/w396-h400/StrawberryFieldsFINI.jpg" width="396" /></a></div><p> </p><p>The new <span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>STRAWBERRY FIELDS</b></span> was stitched with a yummy red and green thread palette built around Watercolours 055 - "Cerise", but after I had stitched up the red model, it occurred to me that maybe some stitchers would like to see a bit of blue in the piece, to make a change from all that red....</p><p>So I pulled Watercolours 008 - "Nefertiti" (which is a variegated red/green/blue thread) that would fit right in with the reds and greens of the rest of the threads. So if you want a bit of blue worked into your piece, you can add the bluer variegated thread, along with one #5 pearl 312 (blue) to use instead of the lighter red color (shown above on one side of the metallic squares border). Of course the strawberries and blossoms and border lines all stay the same colors as in the red version, but adding a bit of blue will make a very cheerful combination, too!</p><p>The stitches aren't difficult, and both the strawberries and pale blossoms are fun to stitch. Here's a look up-close, so you can see some of the stitch patterns used in this new piece:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEGvZM8hHwUWI5OrL8Xe5bxS6cTxbPo3Ox0o-H1XyHafl3H9z5xddE63dvSjmf1RzaFWzQqb3rGNWcpmFmxmP6MM2n77Yx6f9S8wvfax6Dj60iGoKf5sM-Zfdx-EbdNcIMjonZTAFuLWRr/s595/StrawberryFdDET1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="526" data-original-width="595" height="354" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEGvZM8hHwUWI5OrL8Xe5bxS6cTxbPo3Ox0o-H1XyHafl3H9z5xddE63dvSjmf1RzaFWzQqb3rGNWcpmFmxmP6MM2n77Yx6f9S8wvfax6Dj60iGoKf5sM-Zfdx-EbdNcIMjonZTAFuLWRr/w400-h354/StrawberryFdDET1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p> </p><p>So if you love strawberries, and would like to work on a piece that gives you a taste of those sweet summer days just gone by, please mosey on over to <a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net">my website</a> and see the materials list and ordering information for this new <span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>STRAWBERRY FIELDS</b></span> pattern. I realized it was way past time to release it on my website, for those stitchers who enjoy working pure geometric designs.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6WnB7PXDGgXDjLT2X_sORRnAtOkQcEG62au2fXyHr_IkDZ4Vx17qSbVslpPsv0JHU2-FZRoBIWjLnDCjio5aOUx7_uRmNKkDCjJodDKTPEjs3afT24FaflFkTeBJY7it-Jqpdl-u2kCFn/s1500/PatchParfaitGRN.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1434" data-original-width="1500" height="383" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6WnB7PXDGgXDjLT2X_sORRnAtOkQcEG62au2fXyHr_IkDZ4Vx17qSbVslpPsv0JHU2-FZRoBIWjLnDCjio5aOUx7_uRmNKkDCjJodDKTPEjs3afT24FaflFkTeBJY7it-Jqpdl-u2kCFn/w400-h383/PatchParfaitGRN.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr></tbody></table><p>It's truly one of the most tranquil and pleasant geometrics to stitch, since the stitch patterns are pretty basic and all that's required is creating the diagonal satin stitched borders, then filling the squares with those same few patterns, but going in different directions in each quadrant. Here's a closer look at some of those repeated stitch patterns:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2D5KZWc9ZSN_Bh7__cisPWZcxMCj_z200DxRRdM6cAxPiPCRXhz777eq568j-91uacqr-5x3aZyYplpb5tQcmnPZq7_yhvsKvv-2Os51YYfHehn4OcpAkLLwK2BDDvnZu-Q3t-Og_6rKN/s750/PARFdetail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="746" data-original-width="750" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2D5KZWc9ZSN_Bh7__cisPWZcxMCj_z200DxRRdM6cAxPiPCRXhz777eq568j-91uacqr-5x3aZyYplpb5tQcmnPZq7_yhvsKvv-2Os51YYfHehn4OcpAkLLwK2BDDvnZu-Q3t-Og_6rKN/w400-h398/PARFdetail.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>See? Nothing difficult at all..... And it's worked on 18 ct. mono canvas which is cut at 15" x 15", with the finished design size is actually 11.5" x 11.5".<br /></p><p>Another enjoyable thing about this piece is how easy it is to change the colors in the limited thread palette. The pattern provides five different colorways: teal (shown above), blue, green, purple, or red. But you can definitely make up your own version, starting with your favorite variegated Caron silk Waterlilies. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIpNQYztPYBaqm6FSZKzT4R-wcn9EI8NsF_tYrl-Nj3q1m7wlxTIgcRhxwdb0PteQHOaRQ5pijFY1206a8SXSdv2z06lR38f-uI0bhIAgW_NIvovfG8ZfKNpBchmGdkzS0KJRFj1qDYidJ/s2048/PARFthrds.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1481" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIpNQYztPYBaqm6FSZKzT4R-wcn9EI8NsF_tYrl-Nj3q1m7wlxTIgcRhxwdb0PteQHOaRQ5pijFY1206a8SXSdv2z06lR38f-uI0bhIAgW_NIvovfG8ZfKNpBchmGdkzS0KJRFj1qDYidJ/w289-h400/PARFthrds.jpg" width="289" /></a></div><p></p><p>The thread palette includes two Splendor silks,one Kreinik 1/16th Ribbon and one YLI Ribbon Floss. </p><p> So if you're in the mood for a serene geometric piece, why not meander on over to <a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net">my website</a>, and see<span style="color: #45818e;"><b> PATCHWORK PARFAIT</b></span>'s pattern information. (And in Northern California this week we'll be seeing high triple-digit temperatures -- with 107 in Sonoma, and 109 in Sacramento -- yikes.) Which makes it excellent stitching weather - preferably under a ceiling fan with a cool drink close at hand...</p><p>With that in mind, I thought a small floral piece would be perfect for my next cyber class. Something easy, not too big, but still full of fun stitches, with one of the perkiest flowers around: pansies! Here's what some of the stitch patterns look like up close:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNZhDDsy6Td4WmuVH4ZxtURr57U8l0vyneQEX2mOxPCKcWSQqxJzlVCwNeqN9codEwasI8GDQbwECIGRXA7Q55oXxbf-9O1TleOubGFhxdLUDDN8kQmvIKllQgZKS8WjCQ88kNMCJpwaWH/s1066/LILPANbkflwr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1066" data-original-width="682" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNZhDDsy6Td4WmuVH4ZxtURr57U8l0vyneQEX2mOxPCKcWSQqxJzlVCwNeqN9codEwasI8GDQbwECIGRXA7Q55oXxbf-9O1TleOubGFhxdLUDDN8kQmvIKllQgZKS8WjCQ88kNMCJpwaWH/w256-h400/LILPANbkflwr.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><p>The finished size of this piece is apprx. 5.5" x 6.5" with the pansy image printed on an 8" x 10" white piece of 18 ct. canvas. Using a handful of DMC floss, and one green #5 pearl cotton (for the padded borders) you get to fill in the pansy petals with different easy stitches that also allow the colors of the canvas to show through, because you're only stitching with 1 ply of the 6-ply floss. And as you can see, once the petals are filled, you get to use some easy embellishment stitches on top for extra texture and interest. Of course there's a fun checked border to finish the piece (you know how I love those borders!)....</p><p>So if you'd like to learn some easy shadow stitching techniques, please saunter on over to <a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net">my website</a> and see all the <span style="color: #674ea7;"><b>LITTLE PANSIES</b></span> class particulars.</p><p>Happy Summer Stitching, Everyone!<br /></p>Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16092467666957561426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541885083874632647.post-7689075648774067992021-06-10T11:32:00.000-07:002021-06-10T11:32:29.872-07:00California Gold<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjldr2aW26NCBUr8_KHUAw9QKLSHiGkbxhxUoAHNqs954KvsCkzpOKdH48K3oNX7uK41NTYNSCeuu0mIkqJv8Er3uw9vhqw0ZfD2MhakqB5ZbkbZD4N3i6xpwQxLkqJWb3bFwI8W9kpzn23/s1600/May2012+381.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjldr2aW26NCBUr8_KHUAw9QKLSHiGkbxhxUoAHNqs954KvsCkzpOKdH48K3oNX7uK41NTYNSCeuu0mIkqJv8Er3uw9vhqw0ZfD2MhakqB5ZbkbZD4N3i6xpwQxLkqJWb3bFwI8W9kpzn23/s320/May2012+381.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <p></p><p>California poppies are one of my favorite flowers. Here's the project I had started:<br /><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFQsiNbYvKcbB76y0SDIc2uATnndMm3eee6Pc_VkxWCxUEPUpdI4bSRF-DzK2EY9u5qSvGvgnU4nwRhk0sPaOcncgNjg-EGhsQOKqWekKzjaysiCzStG6ZpU_xQOQFDBPT3kn4cjLys7kv/s1500/SpringFlingPINKfini2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1479" data-original-width="1500" height="395" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFQsiNbYvKcbB76y0SDIc2uATnndMm3eee6Pc_VkxWCxUEPUpdI4bSRF-DzK2EY9u5qSvGvgnU4nwRhk0sPaOcncgNjg-EGhsQOKqWekKzjaysiCzStG6ZpU_xQOQFDBPT3kn4cjLys7kv/w400-h395/SpringFlingPINKfini2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> Recently, when I was going through my project stash I ran across it and thought, "Hey, I should finish this up!" So I did. And I liked it so much, I wondered how how the same design would look in soft blues and greens as well..... So I stitched up another one in a dreamy blue thread palette:<p></p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_bK_hkBJSA_bAWZSFCMwxRUk6-zguP-FbyTGP0wwL6Y7RRmCRLzPRw-Lwgd4DWw4MkmqOEQrIx1XqT-C5FVa7kF29nHP-z-mmqkZzHrr-7QOzA1dzfpinHaFsxyAOy4sAK8sYPEUGGfv/s1500/SpringFlingBLUEfini2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1499" data-original-width="1500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_bK_hkBJSA_bAWZSFCMwxRUk6-zguP-FbyTGP0wwL6Y7RRmCRLzPRw-Lwgd4DWw4MkmqOEQrIx1XqT-C5FVa7kF29nHP-z-mmqkZzHrr-7QOzA1dzfpinHaFsxyAOy4sAK8sYPEUGGfv/w400-h400/SpringFlingBLUEfini2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <p></p><p>And I liked it equally as well as the pink one! "Hey, this would make a fun cyber class project," I thought to myself. So that's what I'm presenting to you today.... My totally serene <span style="color: #6fa8dc;"><b>"SPRING FLING"</b></span>.</p><p> And I must tell you, none of the stitches are difficult; indeed, they are basic stitches done in easy repeat rows, which are fun to stitch just to see the soft colors unfurl themselves.... Here's what the assorted stitch patterns look like up close:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpoBPdGi6YpfeAsH_nSaITqvlblJCSpMDDMJHqVsvRR17bHXTPWtz6GGeXzXPRAdRTCuQdWGSGhLZolerLGIjTjnSi8oPc3GBHJb_Q1P1alsMIqDt5f1cjlOGuNsc0zYWwlPMAlK0pxYST/s739/SprgFlngblue1b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="719" data-original-width="739" height="389" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpoBPdGi6YpfeAsH_nSaITqvlblJCSpMDDMJHqVsvRR17bHXTPWtz6GGeXzXPRAdRTCuQdWGSGhLZolerLGIjTjnSi8oPc3GBHJb_Q1P1alsMIqDt5f1cjlOGuNsc0zYWwlPMAlK0pxYST/w400-h389/SprgFlngblue1b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>See? Nothing difficult at all! Straight stitches, zig zag rows, triangles, diagonal laid ribbons, and even a little bit of a lacy filling stitch.... And aren't those colors yummy? This 10" x 10" design is stitched on 18 ct. eggshell canvas, with one variegated Watercolours, a handful of DMC #5 pearl cottons, a few flosses, and a couple of metallic ribbon colors. And the piece includes silver round beads and a silver diamond jewel for the center. But it occurs to me now, that this piece would also be a terrific way to show off an heirloom button or unique charm (oooh, how about a small cameo?).... I'm sure you can find something fun in your own stash of buttons, charms, and beads, if you like that idea.</p><p>Here are the basic color choices for the class, either BLUE or PINK:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJaNXdxtuuCc2XTAVWVX5BmXCOMIVVzpZAA2KPMc-f9hVe9Tpmw8ZDQxIoaSne0BlSyqO96p4GUsFAf9QntTGVnemwdI3zNSX-06YmKe4DMTwref5bs85mOrECgOTMKBr3O-rgPQX2mCd/s2500/ThrdsChoice2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="663" data-original-width="2500" height="106" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJaNXdxtuuCc2XTAVWVX5BmXCOMIVVzpZAA2KPMc-f9hVe9Tpmw8ZDQxIoaSne0BlSyqO96p4GUsFAf9QntTGVnemwdI3zNSX-06YmKe4DMTwref5bs85mOrECgOTMKBr3O-rgPQX2mCd/w400-h106/ThrdsChoice2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p> The BLUE palette is built around Watercolors 336 - "cool waters" and the PINK palette is built around Watercolours 053 - "coral blush". Craving warm sunny days and fields filled with nodding flowers?</p><p> Well, how about stitching up a fun piece that will get you in a happy mood for Spring??</p><p>In these past few weeks, I've been working on a brand-new cyber class piece called <span style="color: #674ea7;"><b>"EASTER EGG HUNT"</b></span> which features lots of soft pastel threads, fun floral patterns, and lots and lots of tiny eggs to stitch and hide throughout this design. Here's what I've come up with for you springtime Cyber Class Stitchers:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxa4SMQ6zNQSU2An2WAtlvV3TIGJiMjOeE860cMbTAWxMr7a8gzybcARhmVxXJT8Q6v5YyrrO3l3acLfHAZzI18zgKp6Mljpv9fkfiYLO7fsmByH72Hy_O1teNgIzJuPk0v67Hga2yrfdE/s1556/EggHuntSM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1556" data-original-width="1500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxa4SMQ6zNQSU2An2WAtlvV3TIGJiMjOeE860cMbTAWxMr7a8gzybcARhmVxXJT8Q6v5YyrrO3l3acLfHAZzI18zgKp6Mljpv9fkfiYLO7fsmByH72Hy_O1teNgIzJuPk0v67Hga2yrfdE/w385-h400/EggHuntSM.jpg" width="385" /></a></div> <p></p><p>It's a small 8" x 8" piece, but it's packed with lots of pastel yumminess! The stitches are not difficult; in fact they are all basic stitches combined in fun and interesting ways to make each section of this design a fun one to stitch. <br /></p><p>I've used the same format as my previous PUMPKIN TIME and BEE-UTIFUL GARDEN pieces, but this time in the center opening I've placed a bunny (stitched with soft Bella Lusso thread) and an Easter basket surrounded by pearl cotton eggs. The grassy cobblestone pathways have pale lavender wildflowers sprinkled all around as well... And if you look closely, you'll see many other eggs hidden around the borders and even inside the flower beds themselves. </p><p>Here's a peek up-close, at some of the fun bits that make up this<span style="color: #ff00fe;"><b> EASTER EGG HUNT</b></span> piece:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSSLc1Kjf5aIZFRfLsyAhBhAx8U0Fy5PZDul0ncbHWbAfZHk8B6RUt8ukOlMuZMWI8pTJjvVPSSG9_Uxaju2TuWslqfOstZ78Yv4bk2V9pIZtV1VS1y8pamDm4IC89Qj9JaEPMivIGkdOO/s1368/EggHunt+DET1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1150" data-original-width="1368" height="336" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSSLc1Kjf5aIZFRfLsyAhBhAx8U0Fy5PZDul0ncbHWbAfZHk8B6RUt8ukOlMuZMWI8pTJjvVPSSG9_Uxaju2TuWslqfOstZ78Yv4bk2V9pIZtV1VS1y8pamDm4IC89Qj9JaEPMivIGkdOO/w400-h336/EggHunt+DET1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>So if you'd like a joyful springtime project to look forward to, please hop on over to<a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net"><b> my website</b></a>, to my Cyber Class page, and see all the information about this fun new cyber class,<span style="color: #674ea7;"> <b>"EASTER EGG HUNT."</b></span></p>Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16092467666957561426noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541885083874632647.post-26474016901105441032021-01-16T17:00:00.000-08:002021-01-16T17:00:01.088-08:00ROAD TRIP!!<p> Are you tired of staying at home and staring at the same four walls these days?</p><p>Are you itching to get in the car and do some traveling right about now?</p><p>Well, how about taking a stitching vacation using your needle and thread and stitching a road trip up in the mountains??</p><p>I've finished a really fun new piece that let's you do some exploring in the mountains without even leaving home. I'm calling it <span style="color: #0b5394;"><b>"MOUNTAIN TRAILS"</b></span> (as a fun companion piece to my "COUNTRY ROADS" I released a few years ago).</p><p> <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq1yyW8DeC3LAhTKxGUe4bf_AYzqGTkbYFJnK8jrhG7-WmnUpdI_4x5WklqDdEUwHgqwEKUsIxjHr3mAZZWvoY319Ki77b4KzCz72TjJb8EzZibVi6qnjfTfOV40OkIakZl1yQvWEd449d/s2637/MtnTrailsFINI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2637" data-original-width="1192" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq1yyW8DeC3LAhTKxGUe4bf_AYzqGTkbYFJnK8jrhG7-WmnUpdI_4x5WklqDdEUwHgqwEKUsIxjHr3mAZZWvoY319Ki77b4KzCz72TjJb8EzZibVi6qnjfTfOV40OkIakZl1yQvWEd449d/w290-h640/MtnTrailsFINI.jpg" width="290" /></a></div><p></p><p> I had sooo much fun sketching this out and then working it up with my needle and thread. I tried to think of all the fun things I'd like to see on a mountain trip - tents and cabins, and plenty of animals.... The design blocks are not difficult -- easy stitch patterns are combined with fun threads so you should really enjoy the trip. As with most counted canvaswork, the most difficult thing is counting out the sections; but just go slow, count carefully and you'll soon have all your stitch blocks lined up and ready to fill!<br /></p><p>Here's a closeup of one of the sections with a campsite:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFwmSCOhsvtu5YGbQczjKAY9hDWn7P1cjs-4Fvk4Wk8FSdMLoG0M8A_6A0Og7YhNN0Q5GV4mlL4A8oR0Lhk9m38LXZHd07n5MSZFxEw8-EoUPPnbksJbK_YNJzCmufemzueiUMPcCzfLpo/s1009/MtnTrailsDET1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="558" data-original-width="1009" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFwmSCOhsvtu5YGbQczjKAY9hDWn7P1cjs-4Fvk4Wk8FSdMLoG0M8A_6A0Og7YhNN0Q5GV4mlL4A8oR0Lhk9m38LXZHd07n5MSZFxEw8-EoUPPnbksJbK_YNJzCmufemzueiUMPcCzfLpo/w400-h221/MtnTrailsDET1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>And here's a peek at the local General Store (complete with hay-filled pick up truck):</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQ1ECaErV23HMgzxnrmBRwC9an070Ly09DnOA1W99kKGAAjll2AUVXj2KUQkNCkkwEydTjIsN2yBGQbDHi8iJZOlUdIi94WNDF5gjaZoIp0M1hEkc-mifycbMZwOCa6bJRJ3eG2oUmmzQ/s1006/MtnTrailsDET2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="551" data-original-width="1006" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQ1ECaErV23HMgzxnrmBRwC9an070Ly09DnOA1W99kKGAAjll2AUVXj2KUQkNCkkwEydTjIsN2yBGQbDHi8iJZOlUdIi94WNDF5gjaZoIp0M1hEkc-mifycbMZwOCa6bJRJ3eG2oUmmzQ/w400-h219/MtnTrailsDET2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p> And while I've splurged and stitched this in Splendor Silk threads, I've also included a list of DMC floss substitutes, if you have those on hand. It's called<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b> "WINTER POINSETTIAS"</b></span> (which is sort of a companion piece to my earlier "SUMMER MAGNOLIAS") and it such a holly jolly piece, I couldn't wait to get it finished and share it with you:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2du5CT7NVcH75IFlKftSFt-avCgVUKZoiPA3fvlHijwQJDuQUNeHck-6FLE4xML_Lrt9b7vSYGuLmKxfP2TASXqaGqpTWTVN094XhiYKheE2dIOHdUh8nP-YrSTZdiM1bM64sOr39pXwY/s1500/WinterPoinsettias.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1491" data-original-width="1500" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2du5CT7NVcH75IFlKftSFt-avCgVUKZoiPA3fvlHijwQJDuQUNeHck-6FLE4xML_Lrt9b7vSYGuLmKxfP2TASXqaGqpTWTVN094XhiYKheE2dIOHdUh8nP-YrSTZdiM1bM64sOr39pXwY/w400-h398/WinterPoinsettias.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This piece is 9.5" x 9.5" on 18 ct. canvas and I chose sandstone canvas so the ecru borders would "pop" a bit with the reds and greens and golds. It's done with mostly #5 pearl cotton threads, with a gold metallic ribbon and a variegated green thread used for the "pine tree" outer border. There are lots of different types of stitches and borders, and things move pretty fast so you don't get bored. The stitches aren't at all difficult and really, I enjoyed stitching every part of this piece!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The challenge I set for myself in designing this piece was seeing if I could create a geometric version of a poinsettia flower, and I am truly pleased with the large center flower, shown below in an up-close photo:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3kPyTqHOJ5I0DqNGeOWeNKMIOzRPFr4IDvw8nAOgmQ0Vvv3g1cVKYDJ5ACSOuwBo1VnKzAVglgFyryeUcrI4AAV1MqxNB4-xQqTuGe3z2jppNjcxeYlIeYj8_SZllLcp3Q1qcwNt9FB7E/s846/WinterPoinsetDET.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="846" data-original-width="762" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3kPyTqHOJ5I0DqNGeOWeNKMIOzRPFr4IDvw8nAOgmQ0Vvv3g1cVKYDJ5ACSOuwBo1VnKzAVglgFyryeUcrI4AAV1MqxNB4-xQqTuGe3z2jppNjcxeYlIeYj8_SZllLcp3Q1qcwNt9FB7E/w360-h400/WinterPoinsetDET.jpg" width="360" /></a></div> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Amidst all those jolly reds and greens and golds, those big poinsettia petals are fun to stitch... and when you're all done you have the fun of adding red and gold beads in the center, so it REALLY looks a lot like the poinsettias we see this time of year.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So if you'd like to work on a festive holiday project that is equally appropriate and totally pleasing for those dark gloomy days AFTER the holidays, here's a fun one for you! The thread palette is so very luscious with deep green, burgundy, gold and rose. If you look closely, you can see that the outer border grapevine is worked in #5 pearl cottons, while the inner grapevine is worked with thinner DMC floss, to create a bit of dimension within the small piece. The stitches aren't at all difficult and that makes it very fun to stitch. I tend to do so many large and involved pieces that every now and then it's a sheer relief to have a smaller, easier, and more manageable project! And this small cyber class project definitely fits the bill.....<p></p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV5-GeZ1Q0EXWLc8aZs2nwQ1IOpOSOJ3t3R35g__lDRyc-VaxPrpAMxNQeK0ek88V7Npxugu5om2oNSFyM9aNc58459uTb_5g-SCLtdPxUOJSHx1wpy4eWK74cC-0JEmv8tR5yzoHLMtMW/s600/DAYLILYpicOR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="568" data-original-width="600" height="379" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV5-GeZ1Q0EXWLc8aZs2nwQ1IOpOSOJ3t3R35g__lDRyc-VaxPrpAMxNQeK0ek88V7Npxugu5om2oNSFyM9aNc58459uTb_5g-SCLtdPxUOJSHx1wpy4eWK74cC-0JEmv8tR5yzoHLMtMW/w400-h379/DAYLILYpicOR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>It's my<b> DAYLILY: a shadow stitch project</b>, which is a small 6" x 6.5"piece that can be done in either ORANGE or YELLOW. As a bit of a splurge, I've used Splendor silk threads for the piece, as well as #5 pearl cottons for the padded outer border.</p><p>If you've ever wondered about applying shadow stitching to a canvas, this is the perfect project to try working a few simple stitches on a flower image that has been printed onto 18 ct. white mono canvas. The stitches that are done on top of the canvas are designed to create a bit of texture and pattern, but also to let the canvas colors to show through and blend with the stitching. It's great fun to work on - not too easy, not too hard - especially in this compact design. Here's a look at the yellow version as well: <br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTm9Dj9apMAVbfnc6uwfpHoQLAuOd0-JFSqPARt_Yq0O_4oTys2TSZA1js8CSEgOheh14baElXZPr2AjcasN8z_e3SJ_3nUFxmuFsc9k55S67NDOTYviltEp2s1PV2TyITHlF4HMb7ETky/s600/DAYLILYpicYEL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="557" data-original-width="600" height="371" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTm9Dj9apMAVbfnc6uwfpHoQLAuOd0-JFSqPARt_Yq0O_4oTys2TSZA1js8CSEgOheh14baElXZPr2AjcasN8z_e3SJ_3nUFxmuFsc9k55S67NDOTYviltEp2s1PV2TyITHlF4HMb7ETky/w400-h371/DAYLILYpicYEL.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <p></p><p>And once you've done all your flat stitching, there's a fun padded border to add around the edges to give it more color and texture. Here's a look up close at the central scene, plus you get a glimpse at the easy-to-stitch pumpkins, blossoms, and leaves that fill the squares around the center:<br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLxDwFi0pWQHLFZGzKKLgaeshH3AH6lvDPxRUzD7EET2D2Qpw4yWjiE0SHqLUf9874w-RVtvQtHf3_5q_c-i1VtXuk0Acq6JQm_y8kC5NOSAWkuaTIzePBji8_0x9KAeyOLIaqFB6U3HLG/s569/PumpPatchDET1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="569" data-original-width="500" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLxDwFi0pWQHLFZGzKKLgaeshH3AH6lvDPxRUzD7EET2D2Qpw4yWjiE0SHqLUf9874w-RVtvQtHf3_5q_c-i1VtXuk0Acq6JQm_y8kC5NOSAWkuaTIzePBji8_0x9KAeyOLIaqFB6U3HLG/s320/PumpPatchDET1.jpg" /></a></div> <p></p><p>I've listed several different types of variegated threads like Gentle Art Sampler threads and #5 Painter's Threads (used for the brick walkway and the green/gold/brown foundation grids) but you can definitely pull threads from your stash to use instead, in whatever Halloweeny colors you have on hand. <br /></p><p>So Stitchers, if you<span style="color: red;"><b> LOVE</b></span> working on Halloween projects, this is definitely one for your stash.... and hey, it's also a fun piece to keep hanging up through Thanksgiving, until you start decorating for the next big holiday!</p><p>If this little piece of pumpkin heaven calls to you, please hitch up your wagon and drive on over to<span style="color: #b45f06;"><b> <a href="www.laurajperindesigns.net">my website</a></b></span> to see the information for this fun<span style="color: #ffa400;"><b> PUMPKIN PATCH</b></span> design. <br /></p>Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16092467666957561426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541885083874632647.post-72738962546434493642020-09-24T13:09:00.000-07:002020-09-24T13:09:12.919-07:00Fall Poppies<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglvqJnvzTkopMLi7McX39fPSh3FKP_jbUwFanDVGDrW1uvV6Ju_iCQvdYBGhfX2fFwPY64mpQgobiCcdpMs4igaGk2LXcHLsU0P7dtzT7Mx85DXQ-IsBH1m5PX6PCg-lw04jHIOuoGufZp/s731/redpopp.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="366" data-original-width="731" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglvqJnvzTkopMLi7McX39fPSh3FKP_jbUwFanDVGDrW1uvV6Ju_iCQvdYBGhfX2fFwPY64mpQgobiCcdpMs4igaGk2LXcHLsU0P7dtzT7Mx85DXQ-IsBH1m5PX6PCg-lw04jHIOuoGufZp/w400-h200/redpopp.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /> I don't know about you, but I'm sooooo ready for fall this year!<p></p><p>Too much heat, too much fire danger, too much worry about everything around me....I can't WAIT for some cooling rain to calm things down and get us into a quieter, safer season. </p><p>To get ready for the fall, I spent the late summer stitching up a new cyber class project called <span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>"RED POPPY SQUARE":</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #cc0000;"><b></b></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb-386WXuoUe6br384iNbT8XimxVwtjbI_87lCEwFBa44-zQAVfcmCAaGsoyZpBU5PSDeWpp5euuPdtl3WlepCWNtSUjaCrrhbuUVN_kaGKjYILGhgAawuaaylWq5Zqn76RAkk9yJ_gSvY/s814/RedPoppySqSM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="814" data-original-width="800" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb-386WXuoUe6br384iNbT8XimxVwtjbI_87lCEwFBa44-zQAVfcmCAaGsoyZpBU5PSDeWpp5euuPdtl3WlepCWNtSUjaCrrhbuUVN_kaGKjYILGhgAawuaaylWq5Zqn76RAkk9yJ_gSvY/w393-h400/RedPoppySqSM.jpg" width="393" /></a></b></div><p></p><p>This is a small 8" x 8" piece worked on 18 ct. sandstone canvas. The thread colors reminded me of a wild autumn meadow growing with a vibrant mix of red poppies and other wildflowers.... I had lots of fun creating the four boxes of stitch patterns that include small red poppy motifs - very fun stitching! <br /></p><p>I also wanted to try to recreate the center red poppy with Splendor Silk Ribbons (actually a mix of solid red and variegated red silks). I laid the darker sections of the variegated red silk down first, where the "shadows" might be in the petals, then overlaid the rest of the regular red stitches on top; then a simple outline stitch to define the petals... Just a fun, new technique to add to your ribbon skills! Nothing hard or too complex with multiple layers of stitches that will get me frustrated and sweaty. Do you know that feeling??</p><p style="text-align: center;">Anyway, I grabbed a handful of serene, cool threads - Watercolours 257, "Spearmint" in soft blues and greens, a few matching #5 pearl cottons, and a soft gold metallic ribbon thread. And then I started playing around with some fun stitches and borders, centering around a flower center that reminds me of a creamy white magnolia bloom. And here it is, my new<span style="color: #3d85c6;"><b> "SUMMER MAGNOLIAS"</b></span>:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkHl62J3Vwu06bka1cnK0MRz8P0QFmJzKnCaVM7tGFFhGqgSN2wR1ef85x4s0KudJHgZ9xTHTTEQ-by8sOibEoinuqdWhC3b2WJMhTUl4at3Ab1K32Ut1KQgmfRTRPtgPr9ydvG7uGGljr/s512/SummMagnoliasSM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="500" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkHl62J3Vwu06bka1cnK0MRz8P0QFmJzKnCaVM7tGFFhGqgSN2wR1ef85x4s0KudJHgZ9xTHTTEQ-by8sOibEoinuqdWhC3b2WJMhTUl4at3Ab1K32Ut1KQgmfRTRPtgPr9ydvG7uGGljr/w400-h410/SummMagnoliasSM.jpg" width="400" /></a>I've stitched my 9.5" x 9.5" piece on the slightly tanned sandstone 18 ct. canvas, so the creamy magnolia flowers show up better than on the paler eggshell canvas (they'd also look lovely stitched on the sage green or light blue canvas). I loved using the variegated Watercolours for the various borders, then stitching the sweet flower rows. Lots of soft gold accent stitches give it an elegant feel; and I especially enjoyed creating the "woven triangles" that fit inside the zig zag borders and give the piece a white wicker or white trellis look. Lots of summery fun in this design!</p><p style="text-align: center;">And while I was craving something blue, green and gold to stitch this summer, I also thought it would look lovely in a mauve version... so I've also included a soft pink colorway on the pattern, that uses Watercolours 020 - "Autumn Leaves" as its foundation. <br /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Here's a look at <span style="color: #3d85c6;"><b>"SUMMER MAGNOLIAS"</b></span> up close, and although you can't really see them, there are small gold seed beads in the flower centers, for a bit more fun and texture:</p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJD2q-edxpRoaM-IgG58BD04145Uh3ADCMTS8QPg0dzubnwM_Q9hP6lYZtb-gV74jzatNSKEylMlogo7rh6vz1mkMqoIdli8YFxFysCccUBlFSDcQIXKKZ2b0ChfSBnhkGfvInZt5LFsiy/s542/SummMagnDET1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="542" data-original-width="519" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJD2q-edxpRoaM-IgG58BD04145Uh3ADCMTS8QPg0dzubnwM_Q9hP6lYZtb-gV74jzatNSKEylMlogo7rh6vz1mkMqoIdli8YFxFysCccUBlFSDcQIXKKZ2b0ChfSBnhkGfvInZt5LFsiy/s0/SummMagnDET1.jpg" width="363" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><p style="text-align: center;">Does this design appeal to you in these last hot days of summer? called <span style="color: #0b5394;"><b>"FLOWER BOXES"</b></span>:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlgcwiHlcO1JFGJDPbwa_iD8qvxBk7cwiY-FqCoo269gRn7mDOFAseUNzeLKGrxe1G2Ulcep93xrSIuzKBeqGIpxAsBARgPyGyo7nqIUEi6PHNzx2-Eg9RmT8SKOWxTrG4xtQbXi1wcItH/s1600/FloralBoxBLUE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1593" data-original-width="1600" height="397" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlgcwiHlcO1JFGJDPbwa_iD8qvxBk7cwiY-FqCoo269gRn7mDOFAseUNzeLKGrxe1G2Ulcep93xrSIuzKBeqGIpxAsBARgPyGyo7nqIUEi6PHNzx2-Eg9RmT8SKOWxTrG4xtQbXi1wcItH/s400/FloralBoxBLUE.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I was craving something light and airy for this summer....something easy to stitch on hot summer days with pleasant motifs (with a bit of blackwork thrown in)... and what better than flowers arranged in a knot garden layout!<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><b>FLOWER BOXES</b></span> is a 9.5" x 9.5" design stitched on 18 ct. canvas in eggshell. And each stitcher gets to choose between the<span style="color: #3d85c6;"><b> BLUE/AQUA</b></span> version (shown above with a cool thread palette) and the <span style="color: #e06666;"><b>ROSE/CORAL</b></span> version (shown below with a warm thread palette):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0lILxFtYXmlL5ITdxn-BEa3jEHyt_Gm0hBR8sXtYuyKKfBAJtA-wyBirEF_KIPbHxkp2PvN5O65J1XrB2vZ_ySUWzaqNAAual6qlN7WCElTKDOielrXtZlHWm7H5mXNp9f0-j7cMA2193/s1600/FloralBoxPINK.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="511" data-original-width="1000" height="203" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0lILxFtYXmlL5ITdxn-BEa3jEHyt_Gm0hBR8sXtYuyKKfBAJtA-wyBirEF_KIPbHxkp2PvN5O65J1XrB2vZ_ySUWzaqNAAual6qlN7WCElTKDOielrXtZlHWm7H5mXNp9f0-j7cMA2193/s400/FloralBoxPINK.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><span style="color: #0b5394;"><i>But WAIT, it gets even more fun.....</i></span></b> I've always wanted to create a class where each stitcher gets to choose the elements they like best for each section. In this design, you'll get to choose between two different wide borders (<span style="color: #6fa8dc;"><b>blue arrows</b></span> below), two different narrow border rows (<span style="color: #a64d79;"><b>pink arrows</b></span> below), and best of all, choose which flower clusters you want to stitch (<span style="color: #ffd966;"><b>yellow arrows</b></span>, plus lower boxes, too)! Or, you can stitch the "sampler" version with all of them combined as shown in my cover model. Below is the cover model with arrows pointing to the different stitching options:<br />

<br />
<br />
Does that tickle your designing fancy?!? I hope so! If this class seems like something you'd like to work on during these long hot summer days, please sashay on over to <a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net/"><b>my website</b></a> to read all the class information. STAY SAFE And HAPPY WEEKEND STITCHING, everyone!!<br />

Hey, Stitchers:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm dee-lighted to share my latest design with you.... </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and it's something dee-cidedly red, white & blue... </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hooray! It's my new<span style="color: blue;"><b> RED, WHITE & BLUE RIBBONS </b><span style="color: black;">pattern</span></span>:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfHfgeIzU8fIKVvymk1TQarAMt6UCtLkxHe7qHJo9lO9ynXzhK89ZfBGZxOXNl_ctBujbcSpYPKzYMUzc70qN70Zq5ADGn3F5_qd-pXzhJVgbvFc10UOOYxglEB9l7AsZM7Am7H6fnBfj5/s1600/RWBRibbonsFINIsm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="799" data-original-width="800" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfHfgeIzU8fIKVvymk1TQarAMt6UCtLkxHe7qHJo9lO9ynXzhK89ZfBGZxOXNl_ctBujbcSpYPKzYMUzc70qN70Zq5ADGn3F5_qd-pXzhJVgbvFc10UOOYxglEB9l7AsZM7Am7H6fnBfj5/s400/RWBRibbonsFINIsm.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was in the mood to create something fun for the Fourth of July coming up next month. So I pulled a handful of threads, including a variegated red and variegated blue Watercolours to use as the border bunting, as well as the wavy patriotic heart in the center. Then I started playing with patriotic patterns - of course, stars and hearts came to mind - that could be woven into the overlapping ribbons. I did my stitching on a piece of eggshell canvas with the sparkly gold flecks in it, which you can sorta see below:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjBLHRxR0VLotahYkzfit4VRPOna_aQkw1VjUeeIzyfLFuygbb_SalzWAD5_dKDYI5C7uoMka3TPZSP3K3KEBJPF25efb1L6fWkNZH70t4tacaGCoC9wL9zNGxA4_aqt5fv9t_zHpYi1AE/s1600/RWBRibbnDET1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="501" data-original-width="500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjBLHRxR0VLotahYkzfit4VRPOna_aQkw1VjUeeIzyfLFuygbb_SalzWAD5_dKDYI5C7uoMka3TPZSP3K3KEBJPF25efb1L6fWkNZH70t4tacaGCoC9wL9zNGxA4_aqt5fv9t_zHpYi1AE/s400/RWBRibbnDET1.jpg" width="398" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The stitches themselves are easy enough to do (nothing difficult, except the counting, grin!) and they are just plain fun to work into the red, white and blue ribbon borders, as shown above.. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There's a sprinkling of beads throughout the piece, as well as some gold sequin stars you can't see in the photo, unfortunately....and a gold star jewel to add to the center heart. But you know, if you are a button/embellishment collector, I also realized this would be a great piece to add a few patriotic beads, buttons and charms -- just to give it some extra pizazz and dimension! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So if you want a fun new project to get you in the mood for our next summer holiday, please march on over to <span style="color: #e06666;"><a href="http://www.laurajperindesigns.net/">my website</a></span> and see the pattern information for this super-fun</div>

<br />
Spring is in full bloom these days, and nothing smells as delicious as frothy lilac bushes.<br />
<br />
Which prompted me to pull out a favorite design that I've only offered as a cyber class -- until NOW, so everyone can enjoy the stitching process of creating your own sweet-smelling lilac piece!<br />

This is a small piece (7.5" x 7.5") done on Santa Fe Sage Green 18 ct. mono canvas to give it a cool feel that makes all those luscious lavender blossoms POP. Watercolours 064 "Pale Lilac" is used for the variegated "lattice" that forms the background grid and you can see what a soft, lovely watercolory wash it gives to the piece...<br />
<br />
What's really fun about stitching this project is making lots of small, medium, and large lilac blossoms - all done with simple stitches, but using different types of threads (floss and pearl cotton with a dash of metallic ribbon). Here's what the piece looks like up close... and see if you can pick out all the different size flowers:<br />
